June 26th has been set as the date for a byelection in Toronto to elect a new mayor

John Tory, who admitted to having a relationship with a staff member, has resigned from his position as Toronto’s mayor.

On June 26th, the city of Toronto will choose a new mayor.

Toronto’s city clerk, John D. Elvidge, released a statement on Thursday announcing the significant dates for the upcoming mayoral election. Pending council’s official confirmation of the vote during their meeting on March 29th, the nomination period for candidates will begin at 8:30 a.m. on April 3rd and end on May 12th at 2 p.m. Voters will have the opportunity to cast their ballots in advance over the course of six days leading up to June 13th, with regular voting taking place on Monday, June 26th.

Provided that the next council meeting on March 29th gives the go-ahead, the nomination period for candidates to run for Toronto’s mayoral election will commence at 8:30 a.m. on April 3rd and conclude on May 12th at 2 p.m. Advance voting will be available in the six days preceding June 13th, with the regular voting day occurring on June 26th, which is a Monday.
