India abstains as UNGA demands Russia exit Ukraine

In a significant UNGA vote, India opts for abstention as the assembly demands Russia to exit Ukraine “instantly”

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held a vote on Thursday that made history as countries condemned Russia for their invasion of Ukraine. The assembly called for immediate withdrawal from Kyiv and urged for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Out of the 180 members present, 141 voted in favour of the resolution, while 32 abstained, including China and India. Only seven voted against it.

The resolution demanded that the Russian Federation withdraw all military forces from Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders, and urged a halt to any further hostilities.
